Tomato leaves withering

Hi Rosaline. I use deep root watering on my tomatoes. That means I water the soil and not the leaves. I use a soaker hose to do this. I have been having success with this method. I water every morning for 15 to 20 mins. I think your plants need more water. Good luck Rosaline. I wish you well.

You may not be watering them enough, Rosaline. They need about 2 inches of water a week.

I agree. I normally water in the evening so it doesn't evaporate faster with the heat and sun. Stay safe!

Hi Rosaline, hope this helps you out, If tomato plants have shriveled leaves or halted growth without other disease or pest symptoms, improper care might be the culprit. Too little water can cause shriveled leaves, as can too much. During dry weather, tomato plants need to be watered to a depth of 6 to 8 inches regularly.

They look dry, watering in the am is best time to do this. If watered in the evening there is a chance they could become moldy.

Tomatoes require a huge amount of water. Many gardeners apply black plastic before planting, make "X" cuts through which to insert tomato plants and water, lay soaker hoses atop, then apply mulch. Note that tomatoes generally cease growing over 85 degrees, at which point you may need to drape floating row covers or another type of sun shield.

Hello. My tomatoes have done the same thing. I attribute it to our the weather conditions this year it was cooler spring with a transition to summer time heat quickly. I believe this is the reason for my situation. For this reaction—this will not affect the tomato production.

My husband put a plastic pipe in the ground along side the tomato plants when he planted them. Every other day he put water in the plastic pipe so the water went down to the roots. Worked great because tomato plants need lots of water.

You should water them every day they look dry
