Feeling from this space?
Hello! This is my living room. I see it all the time and don’t really have a fresh perspective about it. What does it feel like? What does it look like? Any input would be great! Thank you :)

It looks more interesting than mine! I would mount that picture on the right somewhere. What is that machine in front of it? Perhaps "hide" it on the other side of the couch. I would paint the table legs (and the pink chair) black to match you chair that is cut off (grey fabric). I would also find a home for those flower pots/items on the left hand side on the ground. Small tweaks and it looks designer-fabulous!
Hi Bernadette, I love the colors! I would just move the empty pots somewhere else to reduce the look of clutter, the area rugs are nice, but the little trinkety things need to go, maybe you could put a shelf up to them on. otherwise it is great
If it was me I would bring in something else for an accent color. Perhaps orange or red. That would give the area more pop. Perhaps a nice long coffee table with a natural or rough edge.
Some more furniture. A few chairs and a new area rug. One that brings in more color and isn't so matchy matchy.
Some pattern (even if it is small) on the lamp shades would be nice too.
A bench could pull double duty. It would give you more storage (under the bench seat) and more seating also.
I have seen curtains at amazon.com and many have patterns.
You can change the entire look of the room with a fresh coat of paint (why not try a new color), new curtains and a new throw rug.
I think you need a couple of comfortable chairs for seating. I also like at least one end table next to a sofa.
I think you could use two seats where the pink chair is. It looks lonely by itself! It’s a little “cold looking with the wooden legs on the coffee table and chair. Two chairs would cozy up the area. You could get another pink chair and maybe a cloth ottoman to replace the table. That would warm up the room. The colors are lovely
It looks a little bohemian with a little mid-century modern mixed in. I don't know what all of the bowls are on the floor, looks like you could use an additional char and more the pink chair up with the front legs on the edge of the rug.
The style looks somewhat mid-century, I'd run with that. Study up on the freeform style of mid-century.
Your room is not balanced. Bring more to the side where the chair is, or, turn your sofa to face the window (the one on the left). That will make it perpendicular to the wall. Add more fabulous lime, and turquoise, coral color.
Hi Bernadette, I love the rug and the way your pictures are hung, but, I think I would move the plastic chair and try for something a little more plush and comfy. Also have you thought about putting the couch on an angle in the corner, that way everything is not in a line. I think you have a great start to your perfect room, just play around with it.
I agree with Betsy and a 3rd and 4th look at your room, Too many legs going on. Love the wall color and love the window dressings. The pots gotta go off the floor, maybe put them on a shelf to give more round shape to the items in the room, or stack them if you can. Take out the pink chair and the coffee table., they are adding to the "leggy effect". The rug has a very busy pattern, I would switch it to something to better match the theme. Hope this was not too brutal. Best to you.
It looks like you could use some more furniture. Maybe an L shaped sofa or one more sofa like you have and a cozy chair.
Hello Bernadette,
To me it looks like an young person or persons take on the retro look! Not sure what the items on the floor are doing though. If you wanted to keep two pictures one under the other on the wall (one on the floor), l would put the dark one down inline with the couch and the other one up on the wall for a more balanced look! Best wishes. Oh! if it is the ~Contemporary look you are going for, you might consider adding a large green (Rubber) plant as a stand alone in a corner. If you want more furniture, look for the Egg Arm chair!
It definitely has energy and a young vibe. I love the pink accents. It's may be just a little cluttered. You could fix that by removing the three extra pillows on the couch.
Right now you have too many pictures scattered around. You shouldn't have pictures on every wall. I think the grouping above the couch needs a larger anchor picture in the group. It's always good to repeat colors diagonally so maybe you could incorporated the pink picture into the left side of a grouping above the couch. Example: Put the picture that is now on the left wall on the right side of the pink one, a small one beneath it and three small pictures down the right side of the group. Then that's enough pictures on that side of the room.
Thanks so much everyone for your constructive criticism! My feelings aren’t hurt at all lol. I love to hear some fresh perspectives and I’m going to apply some. The bowls on the floor are actually Tibetan and crystal singing bowls. I usually have the on a shelf but then they don’t ever get played. I have to figure out what I can do about that too! Thanks so much again ☺️
I like it - bright yet comfy. The only thing I would suggest is bolder art work above the couch. I'd move what is above the couch and put the black and white are above the couch with something on each side of it with bright color to pull out more of the pink in the pillows and carpet.
Love the color vibes! Seems super cozy. What about a pillow to soften up the pink chair
busy/thrown together (sorry!)
Hi Bernadette! (Love that name!)
you have a beautiful colour sense. A little disjointed at the moment. If you’re like me (cheap) then I would work with what you have.
The rectangular black/grey/white abstract would look great cozied up to the gallery setting above the sofa. Make sure that the sofa is centred to the whole grouping.
Take the beautiful art on the floor and hang it where the other picture was. Move your (air purifier?) under the colourful art picture leaving the necessary space around it for proper air circulation.
Buys small container or tube of glossy paint in a matching pink for the table top. Do at least 2 coats after washing the table thoroughly and wiping down with rubbing alcohol. If the table is a glossy finish I suggest a very light sanding. Do not use the table for at least 72 hours.
Move the pink chair closer to the sofa on the left side near the window. Put one of the blue pillows on the chair to soften it ant tie it in better. A small round or oval table on the left of the chair. If it matches the coffee table then don’t paint the coffee table.
Your singing bowls could be arranged on and/or below your coffee table so they’re handy for playing and not a tripping hazard 😆.
Place the other blue pillow with the pink one in the middle of your sofa. A white pillow at each end.
Maybe get a tall fake or real plant to put beside the sofa in the corner.
Low cost tweaks.
Would love to see what your final look is.
I love the color you have going on. How about placing the sofa at an angle in the corner and consider two accent chairs? If there’s room, maybe put your bowls behind the sofa. How about a tall plant to bring in a natural element?
Nice big room, needs 2 accent chairs in bright colors, and lose the rug. I agree that the coffee table really goes with nothing. When you pick the accent chairs grab some pillows to spruce the couch up. Pick a nice bright color from the chairs. Curtains could use an update, of course I have no idea of your budget. But some greenery (plants), as decor can be amazing, if you don'thave a green thumb get some silk one. As can a big mirror. Have fun and post finished pic. Janet, ottawa.
I love how you have this room decorated. I would sugguest maybe something larger over the couch though. A mirror would look great there and then the pictures currently over the couch can be moved to the sides.
Love the rug! I would move the pink chair ( super fun BTW!) closer to the couch, maybe by the slider. Take down the 6 fames above the couch and replace with one of your larger pieces. Remove all the couch pillows except one of the fuzzy blue ones. Or keep the one that is your favorite. Could add little bit of another color from the rug, maybe a flower pot or a small something on the coffee table, or a very small table for a cup of coffee/drink next to the pink chair.
Squint your eyes and look at the Mass, the Scale & the Composition.
The pics over the sofa are too small.
The spindle leg chair is too small to anchor the sofa.
Ive a Bachelor's in Interior Design & a Masters in Architecture.
Be more specific & I will.
I like the mid-century vibe. I would edit down the sofa pillows, too many for such a small sofa. The 6 small pictures behind the sofa are off center but not in a deliberate way, either move them to the right above the arm of sofa going to the left; or center them. You could also change the color of the matting on those pictures to pick up either your pink or blue accent color.
Are those planters on the floor or Tibetan singing bowls? I would create a wooden Tansu style stepped display in front of the window which would show them off better. You could use some old drawers, or various sizes of wooden crates. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/732046114409397560/
