Check out how real this looks! I took foam board and made it look like wood.

Before and after

What you’ll need:

Antique wax

Clear wax

Ink black paint

Sponge

Makeup pads

Chip brush

Metal tray

Foam board

Razor

White paint

Begin by using a razor to cut the board in 3” strips.

Next, poke holes in it randomly.

Then, to make your knots, take your nail and indent a circle into the foam.

Like this all along the board. Don't worry if it rips but try be careful.

Next, use your sponge and cover the whole board with the antique wax making sure to push down in the knots.

Now, mix the clear wax and the black ink and dip your sponge in it and spread it over the brown.

Then use a makeup sponge and dip it in the black ink and clear wax and go over the knots a little more.

Like this.

Lastly, use your chip brush and lightly dip the tips in your white paint and then wipe it on a piece of paper towel. Lightly drag it across your board. If you get too much you can then go across it lightly with your sponge with brown on it to blend it in a little bit more.

The white should really only be dabbed on very lightly.

It should look like this!

Here is a video to help show you all the details. Follow me at Gilbert Marketplace on YouTube or Facebook for more DIY ideas.

You can see here the faux wood compared to real wood. You can hardly tell the difference!

This is what I did with my faux wood. I think it looks great! Let me know what you think!
