How to upcycle a hutch
How can I upcycle a 80s style hutch into a more modern piece I can use?.. any ideas on paint or hardware?
thank you!

It's all a matter of taste.
Can you post pic of the hutch and also the style you’re after?
Hi Peggy.. here is a pic!
Hi Lori, where do you want to use it? What style do you want? If you like farm house, paint it white, antique white or gray. Remove glass and replace with chicken wire. Are you going for casual or more formal?
Hi Lori, Here is an outdated one I had that I painted to give it a completely new look. You wouldn't even know it was the same piece. http://www.recreateddesigns.com/2018/04/farmhouse-decor-hutch-upcycle/
Aww thanks so much! It was such a fun project. I haaaated the look of it before (and luckily it was free!) but I love, love, love the farmhouse look and the blue. I still have it sitting in my kitchen. I was never able to part with it :)
I would use chalk paint on it
dont have to prime when using chalk paint and if you want yiu can put a clear coat over it to seal
it will look like a new piece
what is your decorating style ?
Here are two pieces I painted with chalk paint

Hello one of my favorite bloggers that I subscribe to refinishes furniture and has lovely transformations.
Please consider popping by this bloggers website for her wonderful furniture rehabs. She details useful repair products, techniques and has a nice result. Many of her furniture items are from the thrift store or furniture pieces donated to her. She also has tips for removing furniture odors and how to treat the interior drawers. She obtains a lot of her hardware from Hobby lobby. Usually you can find a discount coupon for hobby lobby.
Here’s a hutch that she recently completed will give you an idea of how to take challenged furniture pieces that need a bit of repair before painting. As well as including a link below of all of her projects and a gallery fashion.
Best wishes with your furniture rehab.

Hi Lori. Gray is such a popular color right now. I would go with gray with white trim. Hardware is silver. That should give you a more modern look. Good luck Lori.
Here's several ideas, hope it helps

White with a brown or black glaze for farmhouse look. Black with chrome for modern.
Paint can totally transform a furiture piece. Choose a color you love and ithe redo can actually become a new unique storage area and conversation piece. OR you could redo and paint the same color as the wall where it is located. So many different avenues you could take.
This is an interesting project that may help: https://do-daddy.com/how-to-transform-old-dresser-into-hutch/
I've upcycled many a hutch on Homeroad.net. Here is just one of them https://www.homeroad.net/2017/12/how-to-add-drawer-labels-to-furniture.html
