I painted popcorn celling. Is there any easy way to scrappe it out?
Just the paint? No. If you want to get rid of the popcorn ceiling, here's a link:
The paint will make the popcorn ceiling texture a bit more difficult to remove but it's not impossible. Here's a link I found on exactly how to do it and also mentions you might want to check for safety wear (depending upon the time the home was built). It's a messy job, but so rewarding!

It's messy, so be prepared. Basically, you are wetting it and scraping it. If it's from the 50's or 60's I would test it for asbestos. So if it's positive? Then, the best thing to do is cover it or having it professionally removed since scraping it will release asbestos into the house creating a huge health hazard for you and your family. If it's negative, you can scrape. Be prepared to have to finish the ceiling after all that scraping. Sometimes it's just easier to cover it with new sheetrock or another type of ceiling finish. Good luck and stay safe!

Hi Marilou. I wouldn't call this job easy at all. Begin by sectioning off the room. You will be causing a lot of dust for this job. Turn off your AC. Lay down drop cloths, or old sheets, or whatever you have on hand. Work in small sections. Spritz a small section of the ceiling with warm water. Wait 15 mins and then scrape the popcorn off. I hope this method helps you. Good luck Marilou.
There are some popcorn ceilings that are sprayed concrete, the kind that is used in swimming pools. They thought this was a clever way of doing fire proofing.
This product is called Gunite. it is impossible to scrape, believe me,.
I have bloodied my knuckles for hours, spraying the heck out of it and getting nowhere. It has to be filled in, or veneered with quarter inch sheet rock.
Be aware that there is also a kind of popcorn ceiling that has asbestos fibers in it. That needs to be encapsulated.
Hi Marilou, this is Peggy. I hope this information helps you with your ceiling project. Search Results
Use a 4-inch utility knife/type scraper to remove the material. This method is messy and slow, but it works. Make sure that you saturate the surface so that the solution penetrates and allows you to easily scrape away the material.Sep 11, 2018

thank you so much Peggy. I think I will do just that.
You can use a paint scrapper
Be very careful dealing with this stuff, if your ceiling was done before 70's it could well contain Asbestos fibres. In UK! we have to have it removed by specialists. Best wishes
