Pre-paint Prep Advice for Exterior Home Repaint Project?

Have done this myself and used a paint scraper on a dry wall to remove any loose paint . You could also use a wire brush. Don't use power washer or paint sprayer to clean off otherwise if it is timber you will have to wait some time for it to be thoroughly dry before painting. Paint on a Stabilizer solution from DIY store then. Dab in all the areas now exposed with washable Exterior Render paint ( if Cement Render) and then go over the whole lot with a coat or two of paint again.. Best wishes,

The pressure washer should do a good job of cleaning it and removing loose paint. Be sure to scrape/sand for any loose paint that is still there.

Agreed the pressure washer is definitely the right place to start. After that I would take a wire brush over all the walls and make sure it got every little loose piece of paint etc. From there a good exterior primer and paint should last a long time!

Hi Kyle, I would use the pressure washer to clean it, & get all the peelies off, then let ii dry completely. I would pre treat any stubborn spots. You should apply primer first to ensure a good application surface for the paint. Apply paint as per directions, let it dry completely before applying the second coat. Hope this helps you out.

Pressure wash the home first with a good cleaner degreaser in the tank.Rinse and let dry thoroughly. If any flakes remain, scrap with a scraper or metal brush. Use a good stain blocking primer, then spray the color and Exterior paint. Use a good paint from Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore. It will cost more but last years longer.

What type of material is the paint overtop of now- concrete, or wood?

Pressure wash first to clean and remove any loose paint. Then use a scraper to remove what the pressure washer didn't. You may want to sand to smooth and feather out the high spots. Prime with a good exterior primer. Paint with a good exterior paint.

Prep for new paint by pressure washing for sure, as everyone else has said. Scraping the paint removes a bit, but a sander will be essential too, to even out the area.

Then use a solid primer (2 coats!) before you put down a good exterior paint. The primer is essential, as it helps to prevent cracking like in your picture.
