Life size chess board

Question

I am tired of my house looking like the house next door. I want outside decor that is simple, inexpensive and unique.

So we decided on a life size (the board will be about 8x8 feet with large hand made chess pieces (at least a foot high).

The only problem I have encountered is trying to find patterns for chess pieces that big. There are lots of patterns for smaller pieces.

Do plan to use cement pavers for the board itself. Will stain each paver so resemble a chess board when assembled.

Have you thought about making your Chess Pieces Unique! Simple outlines of shapes rather than the intricate designs. Are you going to Carve them or chainsaw cut them?
