DIY Rock Climbing Wall

Easy

I built an adorable rock wall for my kids playroom and it was surprisingly easy using a 4x8 sheet of hardwood plywood, spray paint and rock climbing holds. Take a look at how I did it!

Mount 2x4s to the wall

To start with, I screwed 2x4s into the wall studs to give me a solid base to hang the rock wall on.

If it can hold me it will hold the wall! Always a good idea to do a safety check!

Drill holes

I laid out my rock holds to mark where they go and then drilled holes big enough for the t-nuts and bolts. (The rock climbing holds came with the necessary hardware)

Paint

I decided to spray paint my rock holds for a more custom look. They were primary colors before.

Attach wall

I screwed the wall into the 2x4s and it was a super strong hold!

*another reason for using 2x4s to mount is the bolts stick out the back. Make sure to plan your rock holds so that none of them directly hit the 2x4s!

Here is the finished climbing wall! How cool!?
