Hi all, I have a green and yellow outside Yucca plant that has produced some baby rosettes at the base which is fine, except for the fact the mother plant has now toppled over and severed. Anyone know if it is possible to root it?

Actually, if I remember what I have read about them, they have an extensive root system and should regrow. Good luck and stay safe!

Yuccas have 2 ways of reproducing, the 1st is they have flowers and then seeds fall from the flower in a scattered way, get wet from rain, watering, or dew-this is the least effective way of making more yucca plants.

The 2nd way is by the root system, they spread out laterally and when they surface they form rosettes.

yuccas need to have the yellow outer leaves tended to. Put on your garden gloves ( or you will shed some blood) and strip them away as they yellow. The new shoots should come up once you have cleaned out the old ones. The last yucca I had at my old house sent up 20 shoots a week from the old root system.

    Hello Em,

Good lord! 20 shoots, now that is some plant you have there. My plant is in one of 2 matching pots with Yucca in. Now I have two babies in the one the mother plant fell off and one adult plant in the other! Oh how I wish that what looked like identical plants when planted, would end up identical after a year or so. ( they always grow at different rates even though treated the same) guess a bit like people, they may look the same but all are different in their habits........ Thanks for your answer.

  • I would try a little rooting hormone and placing it in soil to see if it takes.
