How Do You repurpose two wall units into an entertainment center?

How far apart are the 2 shelves? Not only does that determine the size of the TV but also if the 2 shelves could support a heavy piece of wood between them. The problem you will run into is that the wood shelf will want to bow between the 2 wood wall units. You will want to use substantial thick wood so you don't have this problem and you will probably want to anchor the shelf to the wall between them as well. Is there any way you can hang the TV on the wall between them and just use the shelf as a mantel underneath the TV? These are all considerations. A picture would help us give you more specifics. I am assuming that the wall units are built ins?

You can add L brackets under the shelves attached to the units themselves. Add 4 per shelf for stability. Part of the bracket is screwed to the bottom of the shelf and the other side is screwed to the unit.

What might be a good idea, is to add a piece of wood that can go along both entertainment centers from end to end, which would create a shelf in the middle for the tv.

You can use "L" shelving brackets on the sides of the wall units to attach the shelves. I would recommend using a good shelving board that has a nice appearance grade.

You could get a low cube, like this -- and put between the bookcases.

You can secure them using shelf cleats. These are just pieces of wood that are screwed into the sides of the wall units. Then screw down through the shelves to anchor them to the wall units. To keep them from bowing take a piece of wood that’s the same length as the wood and screw one to the front, and the back of each shelf. Mount it about 1/2” - 3/4” back from the edge of each shelf to give it a nice look. As far as screw holes go, you can drive the screws down past the surface of the wood and fill them with wood filler, but this will make it hard to locate the screws if you should ever want to take the unit apart. This leaves you one other option. You can buy wooden plugs that get tapped into place (see pic). There are many styles and sizes available.

I would get a low dresser or book shelf and place it between the two tall pieces. Then I would anchor them together with brackets and paint the entire unit a uniform color.

You can take out some of the shelves and drill a hole for the tv cord

I need the wider shelves for the TV. It will not fit into the wall unit. Thanks.
