If you are looking for a way to give your home a new look, learning how to paint tile in your home with a stencil is a great way to do that! Doing this project was super easy, come along with me as I show you how I stenciled a tile floor.

Step 1

You will first need to clean you floor with Rust-Oleum cleaner. Making sure you clean every tile and getting in every nook and cranny. Now let it dry for 30 minutes just to make sure the floor is good and dry.

Step 2

Carefully take painters tape and apply it around your edges to prevent any paint getting on your baseboards. This step is very important for a mess free project.

Make sure you cut in around the edges with a paint brush with your primer.

Step 3

Roll on your base primer that comes in the Rust-Oleum kit with your paint roller. I suggest to keep any pets that you might have out of the room to prevent any hair or paw prints from getting the paint. And turn off your ceiling fans so dust doesn't fly up and land on the floor.

Now wait for this to dry. We waited overnight but you can start sooner based on the directions on the can of paint.

Step 4

Place your stencil on every piece of tile while making sure it is centered. Take your paint roller with a little bit of paint and lightly roll it over your stencil. Having only a small amount of paint on your roller along with lightly rolling will help prevent any paint from going underneath the stencil.

I suggest also cleaning your stencil off every couple of times. I cleaned mine off after every time to make sure no paint got into unwanted areas.

Step 5

Once you are done painting all of your full tiles. Carefully cut your stencil to fit around the edges so you can paint those.

Step 6

Let your paint dry overnight, then take a clean paint roller and roll on your top coat. Then let that dry for 24 hours.

That's all you have to do! Now you can freshen up your home with a brand new look!

Could you share a pic showing the area after it was completed? Similar shot to the one you posted of the "before"?

    Thanks! Great change, I suspect!

The floor looks beautiful, from what I can see of it. Do you have an after photo? Great job!

Don’t you have to have a protective product all over it? Wouldn’t that keep it from peeling/flaking off and keep water (mopping) from damaging it? I’m wanting to do this in a bathroom and worry about wet floors causing damage. Thanks for the cool idea. 👍
