Use Blue Tape to Add Text

I started with a plan doormat. Using blue painters tape, I spelled out the word 'hello'. You can spell out any word or use a vinyl cutter to make a word with a specific font. I brushed black paint around all the edges of the blue paint and then removed the tape.

Create Your Stencil

To make a stencil, I used a piece of card stock paper and my razor blade to cut out different size triangles. This would be my pattern that I would use as a stencil, filling in the triangles with different colored paint around the outer edges of the door mat.

Stencil on the Paint

Using my homemade stencil and a sponge brush, I alternated craft paint colors, dabbing the paint into the doormat and moved the stencil along the outside of the doormat all around the 'Hello' text until I had filled the outer edges with painted triangles.

Enjoy!

Allow the doormat to dry overnight and enjoy!

What type of paint did you use that won't fade in the sun and rain?
