Do you have a suggestion on converting a porch swing into a bench

Depending on the style, you could just add legs that screw in or build a base for it to "sit" into in case you want to go back to a swing.

You’ll need to build a simple base for it. You can use pressure treated 2 x 4s to build a rectangle that is slightly smaller than the swing to give it a nice, finished look. You have a couple of options for the legs. You can put a 2 x 4 on the inside of each corner and run screws through the frame to secure it. Use a high quality exterior wood glue on the leg before screwing it together. My personal preference for glue is Titebond II or Titebond III. instead of using 2 x 4s for the legs you can use 4 x 4s. It will look better because it’ll look nice and symmetrical. Whichever way you go, screw the bench to the frame. You can stain and apply a topcoat finish for protection. Even though the wood is pressure treated it will absorb some of the stain. For a topcoat you can use a product that’s made for exterior use. A really good choice is Spar Varnish. It has been used on boats and ships for hundreds of years. Lastly, the seat height for a chair/bench should be about 17”.
