How to find vintage sewing patterns?
Hello, I'm looking for a vintage pattern for the once popular toddler crossover tops with bloomers, or crossover pinafore or some call if a crossover dress. The straps crossed over in the back and buttoned on the shoulders. I think Simplicity, McCall's, Butterick, etc. all made a version of this pattern. How would I search for such a pattern without having a pattern number? Many thanls!
Hi Judy,
Are any of these the pattern that you are thinking of?
I found them by typing in a few descriptive words - such as vintage toddler pattern crossover pinafore top, in the search box in Google Images. To get to the Google Images search page, open Google first. Then go up to the top right hand corner of the page and click on Images.
Under each picture in the search results is the website source where the picture originated from. These could be websites that are selling vintage patterns such as Etsy, or Ebay, or other sources.
Keep in mind that not all vintage patterns that are available for purchase are uncut. The seller should specify whether the pattern is used or uncut.
You are most welcome.
'Glad to help.
'Keep those questions coming.
Hi Judy - You might want to look on Etsy or eBay - great places for vintage items that are difficult to find! Hope this helps. Hugs, Holly
I've tried eBay and browsed Etsy. I found nothing on eBay, I had size trouble on Etsy, perhaps I need to check in every day to see if any new patterns have been added. Thanks, Holly
Oh my goodness, the memories this brings back. My mother had this pattern, probably still does. She made these for me in the 60's, my niece in the 80's, and my daughter in the 90's. If your google search doesn't return results, let me know and I'll check on my next visit to find the pattern brand and number.
Kathy, My grandma made a dozen or more of these for my toddler sister in the late 60s! Some things never go out of style! Thank you for your generous offer, I just might have to take you up on it. Thanks for your kindness!
Search on Pinterest for vintage childrens patterns. I'm sure you're bound to find something. I found =childrens%7Cautocomplete%7C0&term_meta[]=sewing%7Cautocomplete%7C0&term_meta[]=patterns%7Cautocomplete%7C0&term_meta[]=vintage%7Cautocomplete%7C0]these with a quick search.
I didn't know I could locate actual patterns on Pinterest. Thank you!

Hi Judy: If the patterns that Flipturn are the ones you are looking for, let me know. I think I have them and you can have them if you'd like. Just let me know.
I have the one on the lower left, which is basically the same as the one above it. I also have some others. If you will send me your e-mail address, I can take pictures of what I have and send them to you. My cat and I looked through all of my patterns, I have a ton. Brought back many memories of my daughter wearing some of these things. I had them arranged in boxes as to what they were, about 9 large plastic boxes, and a friend went through them and put them in all wonky, upside down, frontwards, backwards, mens', ladies, crafts and kids all mixed in. I could choke her! But I will take a day and straighten them all out again :) Anyway, my e-mail is pung61@att.net
By the way, the pattern numbers are all Simplicity
Upper left 8165
Upper right 9994
Lower left - 9513 except mine is size 1 and is 7407, older pattern
Lower right is Butterick - 3846
There are sellers on Etsy that have some!
