    Christine,

What type of flooring is it? There are many ways to do this depending on the type of flooring. A picture is always helpful.

Lots of folks refer to laminate flooring as floor boards.

The removal and installation of replacement pieces of laminate is different from solid wood flooring.

As well, sometimes different brands have different designs on how the laminate pieces snap into place, some of which require removal from a wall inwards in order to access and remove the damaged piece.

You can cut it out and replace it, gluing the replacement in place. If it's not major, you may be able to putty it. Make sure it's supported underneath. Unfortunately, sometimes you get a bad piece of wood.

Hi Christine: If possible, you can either use Contact Cement, which is a glue, to glue the boards back together, or get a piece of wood that matches, cut out the broken piece, very carefully, and put in the new piece, gluing it in. To make a perfect match to the piece you cut out, do this: Get a piece of matching wood at least an inch larger in length and width as the piece you want to cut out. Put this over the area and draw around the replacement piece. Before you remove the replacement piece, make a dot on the raw edge, near the top edge and a matching one on the floor. This way, you will know what end goes where and which end is up :) Then using the outline, cut the wood away and clean the area well. Then put a thin layer of contact cement (I love this stuff!) on all edges of the replacement piece and the cut out piece on the floor. Let it cure for about 10 seconds and then put the replacement piece into the hole and, if you matched the dots, it should fit perfectly! Now, you're done :) Oh, how to cut out the piece? Well, it's not hard at all. Get a drill and drill a hole inside of the 4 corner edges of the piece that you are going to remove, stick your saw blade into it and saw along the lines. Very easy :) Good luck

    Hello Christine,

Cut out or remove the broken board and replace with new if not able to take weight, otherwise, use a wood filler if not badly damaged. Worth being safe than sorry!

Hi Christine, if it is just a crack, use some epoxy to mend it,

The most effective way to repair a cracked floorboard without replacing it is to fill the crack with epoxy filler. Unlike latex- or solvent-based wood fillers, epoxy filler bonds to the wood, and it will prevent the crack from widening. It's important to choose the color carefully because you can't stain epoxy filler.
