Reduce screw length on drawer handles?

I would cut the screw using heavy-duty wire cutters or a hacksaw.

Hi Glenys if this is something that you will do a lot it might be worth investing in a Dremel. They are about a hundred dollars (in canada) and they cut through them easily and quickly. You might be able to borrow one from someone who refinishes furniture as well.

The safest and easiest thing would be to replace the screws with shorter ones. It won’t cost much either! Just figure out the length you need and take the long ones to the hardware store to match.

A dremel tool will make quick work of shortening the screw part of the drawer pulls. Harbor Freight Tools (if you have one in your area) has more inexpensive tools for those of us who don't use them excessively.

You can use a hacksaw or a grinder to shorten up those screws.

Put a nut on the screw before you cut it. Take the nut off after cutting. That will remove the burr as you remove it. It's sometimes impossible to get a nut or knob on the screw after cutting. You can also add washers inside the cabinet to get less thread sticking out.

Hello it could be hacksawed off but —-probably the safest thing to do would be to buy new screws. They cost very little.

You can cut them with a metal cutter.

I would look into getting new screws or new handles. It's easier and safer, but more expensive.

Hello Glenys, different length of screws and a washer on the inside, you may want to change the handles again, and won't be able to if you make the hole to big

We used washers on the back side of the drawer, which took up some of the slack of the longer screws.
