Dollar Store Wire Pumpkin

I had a ton of these baskets left over from doing my DIY sconces because I just used the chain from them. So I came up with this shabby chic pumpkin with burlap. Let’s get started!

Materials

2 wire baskets

Wood stems

Ribbon

Twine

Scissors

Glue gun

Spanish moss

Burlap

Boxwood

Pumpkin decor

Burlap leaves

Wire cutters

Take your pliers and bend the tabs back and forth until they break off.

Like this.

For your material (I used burlap), cut it into strips.

I cut my strips roughly 1.5" wide.

Now that your tabs are broken off and your material is cut, you will align the two baskets together. Use the burlap strips and hot glue to attach them together.

You want to begin where the seams of the two baskets are. Use the hot glue and material wrapping tightly around the baskets. It is important to get it as tight as possible otherwise the baskets won't stay together securely.

It will take some time and depending on which material you used, you may have some fraying but I feel like that adds to the shabby look. Continue wrapping the material around until the basket is completely covered.

Once you have your baskets wrapped, you will want to weave around the top of the basket. Make sure you weave until the hole is covered.

Once the top is covered, you can now attach the stem. I used hot glue to stick mine on.

I then took my Spanish moss and added that around the stem using hot glue.

You can now get creative and add some nice embellishments!

I used a burlap leaf, a ribbon and a succulent. I also added a candle inside.

I think it turned out beautifully!

It will make a great centerpiece on my table.

Or use the wire baskets to make your own pumpkin decor with orange mesh like for a door wreath. I doubt my dollar store has any of these baskets left.

I made a similar one except I cut off what would be the top rim of the baskets if you used them as planters. I then aligned every bar on the baskets and attached them together. I discovered that doing this made a pumpkin shape. This was a happy accident I discovered when I completed these steps while making an outdoor solar light out of the baskets this Spring. Luckily, I bought enough planter baskets to complete both projects. This one turned out nice but as others previously mentioned, I would not use real candles. Dollar General sells decent, inexpensive, wax-like, battery operated pillar candles with a pretty design. I even seen some there that look like wood this fall. Something similar would be a good choice. 😊
