Depending on your style, you can simply paint or add stencils. You could also cut in half for two tables.

Hi Pat. I would give it a good sanding first. Be sure to clean all sanding dust on the spool. Then you could paint it to go with your decor.

Turn it on it's end. Use as is or Paint to suit or Cut down the base by about half. and then finish to taste.
