Learn how to use a kids toy to create a pretty essential oil diffuser. Grab a few simple supplies and follow this tutorial to create your own.

Gather Supplies

Grab a glass jar with a lid, I prefer a plastic lid like the one show.

You will also need water beads and an essential oil of your choice.

You will also need a drill, a large bowl and water.

Water beads are a unique sensory toy for kids. You put a tablespoon in a bowl of water and they swell up to be large round squishy beads.

Kids can play with these beads, you can even make stress balls using balloons.

But I'm showing you how to use these in a beautiful home decor piece.

Soak the water beads in a bowl of water for a few hours until the swell up to this size.

Meanwhile, drill a few holes in the lid of your jar. This will allow the scent to escape into the air.

Fill the jar with water beads and top with a few drops of your favorite oil. Screw on the lid and you have a diffuser.

You will need to add more oil now and then as the scent fades. But the beads will stay as is for a very long time.

A gorgeous DIY oil diffuser for your home.

I got them on Amazon and they are clear. They start out looking like grains of sand and end up looking like clear marbles.

If you add the essential oil to the water first, then add the beads, will they absorb the fragrance and last longer?

If all of the contents are in glass, what difference would melting make? ...seems like that'd be the time to refresh the contents.

I have purchased this type of air freshener at Dollar Tree. When the beads start to dry out (shrink) I add more water, to plump them back up. By doing this, my $1.00 air freshener has retained its scent for over 6 months. I’m going to add my own oils to the container and try out this idea. 😀
