How to remove chalk paint?
Hi, I just painted a pub table with 2 coats of chalk paint. On one side it became "globby" and didn't do well. I haven't waxed it. I'm am wondering if I could simply sand it down with a random orbit sander and start over.
Hi Jayne, you could sand and start over OR you could apply a generous amount of alcohol to the surace and scrub the chalk paint with a srubbi that won't scratch the surface. The alcohol quickly softens the chalk paint and as you scrub it liquifies so the (alcohol & chalk paint) can be removed with a paper towel.
Hi Jayne, You should have no problem sanding it down and beginning again. If you used Annie Sloan Chalk paint it should come off very easily.
Jayne: an orbital sander would make quick work of the job!
Agreed an orbital sander would work just fine to fix it and give you a nice smooth surface to reapply the paint.
Sanding is the best option. Paint stripper did not work well for me.

Chalk paint is very forgiving. Sand lightly, make sure you spread the paint evenly and it should blend perfectly with the other side. If necessary give the whole thing another light coat.
Jayne: I think an orbital sander would work very well!
Several solutions are discussed here:

Sand it down, or use Cirtistrip. You need to get all the wax or poly off. I would use 180 sand paper then 200 grit

Sanding would be your best way to remove chalk paint. Mineral spirits won't budge it.
I would try sanding it and starting over.
Yes I would only sand the side that came messed up then re stain it
