Wax a Table to Create a Beautiful Finish
I have been working on creating an inviting outdoor space next to the pool area. I figured out how I wanted to set up our outdoor furniture so that you can enjoy the fireplace and still have a view of the pool. But, I needed a coffee table to complete the look.
I did not want to buy anything, so I drug out an old coffee table from storage and decided it would work just fine. All it needed was some major TLC.
First, I sanded the table down using my Makita sander. Then, I decided I would try out some furniture wax instead of going the traditional polyurethane route.
I used a combination of clear wax, dark wax, and black wax. In order to achieve this look, I started by buffing in clear wax and then layering on the dark wax before I added one coat of black wax.
The table is now protected and you can safely sit drinks on it without worrying that you will leave a ring from a watermark.
In order to protect the table, every year or so I will buff another layer of clear wax onto the table to continue to maintain this finish.

Sand Down the Table
After sanding down the table, wipe it down with a wet rag to remove any dust and debris.
While the table is drying, scoop out some clear wax into the plastic bowl.
Using a lint free cloth, buff the clear wax into the table.
After waxing the top, then I buffed the clear wax into the sides of the table.
I used a wax brush to apply the wax in the grooves of the table legs.
I repeated this clear wax process two more times to achieve this look.
Then I scooped some dark wax into a bowl and began to buff the dark wax over the clear wax.
I buffed the dark wax all over entire table making sure to highlight the imperfections.
I used the wax brush to get into the crevices of the sides of the table.
I also used the wax brush to get into the crevices of the legs of the table.
I repeated the dark wax process once more, but only on the top to achieve this look.
I decided I wanted to darken the table even more, so I used the black wax.
I buffed the black wax into the table highlighting the hardware and imperfections of the table.
The table is finished after using one coat of black wax on the entire table.
