Who likes decor other than country, farmhouse or rustic?

I appreciate everyone's design tastes, likes and dislikes, how boring if we all like the same thing. But, ever the farmhouse, country, primitive/rustic style came onto the scene a few years ago, I have had an impossible time trying to find DIY projects for any other style than farmhouse! I find nothing in the transitional, traditional, modern, contemporary or eclectic styled centerpieces, wreaths, vignettes, table settings, room styling, etc. I appreciate all suggestions, blog, project or Pinterest links, especially links to diy projects here on hometalk. Thank you!!

I love the freshness of the beachy look! I don't know that I could with it everyday, but it's so pleasing to the eye.

Yes. I agree with you. I like a very eclectic look. I love pre-owned. Sometimes I go into someone’s home and I see two couches that match, with lamps that match with window treatments that match a family portrait hung over the crackling fireplace. I’m like wow this is so nice. I start thinking about a change, then I get home and I feel so comfortable and happy with my own surroundings and all the stories that go along with each piece I’ve acquired. It’s so much fun to be different.

I think I was 5 yrs. old when I realized I loved an eclectic design style. (I didn't know what "style" was and certainly hadn't even heard the word "eclectic" mentioned) When I think back to the first time someone's home and decor drew me in and made a lasting impression on me, I was 5 yrs. old, tagging along with my Grandma to visit her dear friend, Estelle. The moment Estelle led us into her parlor, I was enchanted! The walls were covered in the most gorgeous cabbage rose wallpaper, a twinkling chandelier hung from the ceiling, Estelle had placed a large green velvet couch diagonally in front of dark wood floor to ceiling bookcases stuffed full of colorful books, porcelain knick-knacks and at least a dozen clocks of every shape and size! I sat down in a large rouge-colored upholstered rocker and wished we'd never have to leave.

I have a coastal cottage style with a nod to the nautical rather than seashells, etc. I think my interior is more transitional and eclectic. I do a lot of tablescapes with centerpieces that might interest you. Take a look at my blog and see if you get some inspiration for something other than farmhouse or country: https://celebrateanddecorate.com/

  • My home is filled with antique/vintage pieces that I've been collecting for years, mixed in with a few newer pieces. I'd describe it as eclectic.

Hi Ann, I failed to click "Reply" prior to commenting on you response. (below) I find the eclectic style so rewarding; the nature of the style prevents the copycat or cookie cutter look from ever intruding.

Your home sounds intriguing, I know I would love searching every square inch. A home full of collections of old and new, antique and vintage, is like visiting someone's personal museum.
