How To Change The Color Of Your Laundry Room Cabinets

You will needed to clean the cabinet before you paint them. This will prevent any unwanted film on the cabinet which could effect the painting.

With a sand sponge lightly sand all the cabinet door and trim. This is optional if you are using primer. But because these cabinet were glossy I didn't want to take a chance that the primer would not stick well..

Before you start painting with the primer. Tape areas around the inside of the cabinets and outside. I was lucky I did not need to paint inside the cabinet because its a white color. Prop up the cabinet doors on a work horse to paint those. You will only need one coat of primer since its a light color.

Let the cabinet side you painted dry for the day before you turn over to do the other side. This is very time consuming and if you don't have much space this is the only way to get the job done right. Otherwise if you turn over to soon you can mess up the paint.

After you painted both sides of the cabinet with primer. Make sure each side has at least 8 hours of drying. With a sponge sander lightly sand on two side before applying the first coat of blue paint.

Make sure you take off the sand dust with a good microfilm cloth before painting. It must be super clean before painting. Use a roller for the cabinet doors and a 4 inch paint brush edger for the trim. You will need to paint 3 coats and sand between each coat. That will take 3 days.

I did use the paint brush on the edge of the front of the cabinet door. then used my paint roller after that. The paint brush gets into the crevices easier.

The cabinets came out very good and I was happy with the paint job. I could have used a sprayer but I didn't have the room. Remeber when using the paint roller make sure its a cabinet roller and roll it back and forth until all the paint is absorbed easliy into the wood. Dont let any drips. Use a brush to remove any drips.
