How to plant in a 3 foot tall planter?

    Not sure what you mean. If you are referring to the weight of a planter being filled with that much soil you fill the bottom with something to take up space. People use plastic water bottles with lids on, packing pellets, a large upside down bucket or plastic container to take up space, use less soil and make the planter much lighter. Also use a plant dolly (wheels) on the bottom so you can move it.

    That's what I had thought about. Actually had thought about the packing peanuts or plastic balls put in the bottom; then put the plants in small buckets if mixing 3 to 4 plants in the planter. Thanks for your suggestion :)

    You can put a false bottom in it or add a filler in the bottom if you don't need to utilize the entire space. Styrofoam peanuts are great for this or you can break up other foam packing material.

    If you have to contend with deer, etc., weight down the base, or place it in a corner where it's less likely to be knocked over.
