Whether or not you keep the chandelier is really a matter of personal preference. If you choose to keep it, then it would make sense to go through the trouble of moving it. You suggested another solution, which is to replace it with a flush mount fixture. It will still be off center, but not as noticeable. It looks like you have enough light colors and natural light to not be overwhelmed by the dark tones of the table and chairs so it's not screaming to be painted. Again, personal preference.

I would leave the lighting but maybe pull out a few links from the chain. Just to make sure no one bumps into it.

As for painting, I think you should if you want a farmhouse look. But then you would probably need to paint the bar stools. Then they might clash or blend with the bar. Perhaps put a rug underneath that is just the size of the table and chairs.

First, I would move the chandelier so it was centered above the table, but keeping it as close to the center of the windows as possible (you can cheat 4-5 inches either way without it being noticeable). Looking at the style & feel of the room, I would change the chandelier to a woven basket type and I would paint the table base/chairs white, to match your peninsula---that will pull the white across the room from the kitchen and balance the room as well as blend with the style. I would also add a jute/ sisal or seagrass rug to ground the area and soften up all those chair & barstool legs (I'd try a 7' square rug). Also change your curtains for some that go to the floor. Hello Peggy. I think you should keep the light fixture but move it over center of table. You might have to repair dry wall after moving it. But if you want the fixture permanent, a small drywall repair job will be worth it. As far as the painting goes, I like the dark chairs and table. But if you do paint the table base and chairs white, I think it will change the look to more of a farm house effect. The light fixture is definitely not farm house. It will need to be replaced. As far as a rug goes, a round table needs a round rug. It should be large enough so that all four legs of the chairs are on the rug when the chair is pulled out. Good luck Peggy. I wish you well.

Find a chandelier with a long chain that you could swag to the centre of the room. That’s the easiest way. :)

You could move the table under the light fitting or move the light across by use of ceiling hook or have the light moved or just lift the light fitting higher so it is a room light and not just a table light! Best wishes

I would replace the chandelier with a ceiling fan. Moving it would require and electrician. A longer chain and swagging it over the table would look off.

Agree with William to replace the present fixture with a fan light.

Swag lighting is now considered outdated decor.

Purchase a quality brand fan light with an enclosed motor, rather than exposed. (examples below) This is a more updated, higher-end look, is easier to keep clean, and will be more quiet running.

Go the extra few dollars and purchase one with integrated LED light (rather than bulbs) remote control (rather than with pulls) and dimmer, as it is way more convenient, plus gives more versatility to adapt lighting in different seasons, and during different times of the day.

Personally I do not like ceiling fans in the kitchen. They get full of grease, need constant cleaning and make your food cold. If it were my eating area, I would have the light moved, or get a longer chain and swag it. If you can afford it get an electrician to move the light, maybe put in a canned light but then you are going to have ceiling repair.

1/ The area of concern is the dining area of the room, not over the cooking area.

2/ If you do not do a great deal of open frying and broiling, and if you have a efficient stove exhaust hood, grease accumulation on an enclosed ceiling fan should not be a problem.

If there isn't a sufficient length of wiring from the nearest junction box to the point in the ceiling where the light fixture would be in the centre of the room, then it will be expensive to rewire the line completely. Besides the cost of hiring an electrician to do this, there may also be additional carpentry or labour expenses to repair the ceiling.

It may be more cost effective to purchase an updated style of table and chair set with a shape that fits better under the existing light.
