Hi Grandma Pat I'm thinking that your best course of action would be to sand it out and refinish the piece of wood.

I have never had much luck removing a heat mark with different methods I have read about. But, I have stripped, sanded and refinished pieces to look like new. I hope you let us know how the methods worked for you! Good luck!
Hi Grandma Pat: You merely need to put a dab of mayonnaise on it. Yeah, that stuff in the fridge! Put the mayo on the stain, let it sit about 20 seconds and wipe it off. That should do it. It may take a couple times. If that doesn't do it for you, then spray it with WD40 and let that sit for about 1/2 hour and wipe it off. Good luck
