Hi Terri, I'm unsure if you mean a mat (as in rug) or matte paint to apply a clear coat to, so please ignore this response if it isn't any help to you.
Hi Terri, it depends on what the mat is made of. They make sealers and sealants for both rubber and fabric.
Mat like a throw rug or mat like a place mat?
I would say no it would make the fibres go hard.
This can be done either with decoupage glue sealer or a varnish. If the placemat is going to have direct contact with food then use a food safe varnish. If the placemat is going to be used as a heat mat to protect the table then use a heat proof varnish.
Hi Terri, are you looking to varnish a floor matt or a place mat? Also, what is it made out of. If you can provide a few more details we would be happy to provide some suggestions/advice. Thanks!
Hello could you give more info or post a photo?
Are you talking about a door mat or a picture frame mat.
No, but you might be able to get the same effect with something like Mod Podge!
If this is a placemat, then I'd say go with Mod Podge.
Where and how is the mat going to be used afterwards?
What kind of mat? A place mat would do better with mod podge
can yu show some pictures ?
It definitely depends on what the mat is made of and if it'll be inside or out.
It depends on the mat I’d imagine and if you’re using it under foot traffic.
You can spray a sealer over a rug if that's what you mean?
