Looking for something to organize your stuff????...Here it is!!! What would be better than a Basket to hold up your belongings. Today am sharing the Pattern for this pretty dual toned oval basket with handles. The handles of the basket makes it very easy to carry around. This can be made in any size of your choice by increasing the number of rounds in the base of the basket.I have used Double Crochets for the base and the basket height is made with Single Crochet Cross Stitches. This is a simple stitch which gives the pretty cross stitch look. The basket is made up with two colors. You can make them in single tone as well. You can definitely play around with the colors to make them for any festive occasions.

Size:-8.5'' Length5'' HeightBut can be Customized to any size of your choice.

Here is the video Tutorial:-

This basket is made up with Bulky Yarn. This very much makes the basket sturdy. You can use any Chunky or Bulky yarn and if you don't have bulky yarn, then you can use 3 strands of thinner yarn held together.

Round 1:-

Start with a Slip Knot.Chain 12.1 Double Crochet in the 2nd Chain from the Hook.1 Double Crochet in each of the next stitches untill you reach the last stitch.

6 Double Crochet in the last stitch.Continue working on the other side. 1 Double Crochet in each of the stitches untill the last stitch.6 Double Crochet in the Last Stitch.Slip Stitch on the 1st Double Crochet.

Round 2:-

Start with Chain 2.(Not Counted as a stitch)1 Double Crochet in the same stitch.1 Double Crochet on each stitch untill you reach the 6 Double Crochets.2 Double Crochet each on the 6 Double Crochet Set.

Working on the other side, continue with 1 Double Crochet in rest of the stitches untill you reach the next 6 Double Crochet set.Again , 2 Double Crochet each on the 6 Double Crochet set. Slip Stitch to end the round.

Round 3:-

Start with Chain 2.(Not Counted as a stitch)1 Double Crochet in the same stitch.1 Double Crochet each on the next stitches untill you reach the corner.(i.e. the 1 stitch of the 2 Double crochet)1 Double Crochet (on the 1st Double Crochet of 6 Double Crochet set)2 Double Crochet on the next stitch.

Repeat(1 Double Crochet, 2 Double Crochet)* on the rest of the 6 Double Crochets set.1 Double Crochet each on the rest of the stitches untill you reach the start of the next Corner.Repeat the same on the corner too:-1 Double Crochet (on the 1st Double Crochet of 6 Double Crochet set)2 Double Crochet on the next stitch.Repeat(1 Double Crochet, 2 Double Crochet)* on the rest of the 6 Double Crochets set.Slip Stitch to end the round.

I stopped with the increases at this round. My base measures 5'' Breadth and 8.5'' Length. If you want a bigger basket, then you can continue with increase round untill you reach the size you need.

Just keep repeating Round 3 untill the desired size is reached.Checkout this Video Tutorial on How To Crochet Oval Base For Bags, Baskets//Oval Base.

Round 4:-

1 Single Crochet each in the Back Loops only .Slip Stitch on top of the first Single Crochet to end the round.

Round 5:-

This round onwards, you will be working on making the height of the basket.Start with Chain 1(Not Counted as a stitch).1 Single Crochet Cross Stitch in the same stitch.1 Single Crochet Cross Stitch in each stitch around.Slip stitch to end the round.

How to make Single Crochet Cross Stitch: -This stitch is very pretty and easy to make. This is similar to Single Crochet.Instead of yarn over the hook, position your hook pointing down and grab the yarn and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops on hook.Repeat Round 5 untill you reach the height you intend to make.

See the Cross Stitch look!!!

Once you reach the height required, change to the other color yarn and make one row of Single Crochet Cross stitch around.

Handles:-

Even if you are not keeping a count of the stitches, its very easy to gauge on where to put the handles.

Just bring together the sides of the basket.

Count Back 3 stitches from the middle stitch(middle stitch not to be counted) and mark it with a stitch marker. This will be the starting point of the handle.

Do the same on the other side. This will be the ending point of the handle

Repeat the same for the 2nd handle on the opposite side.

Start with Chain 1.I Single Crochet Cross Stitch in the same stitch.1 Single Crochet Cross Stitch in remaining stitches untill you reach the stitch before the marked stitch.

Chain 12.

Skip the stitches between the marked stitches.

1 Single Crochet Cross stitch in the stitch next to the marked stitch.

1 Single Crochet Cross stitch in the next stitches untill the next marked stitch on the other side.

For the other handle, repeat the same as the first handle.

1 Single Crochet Cross stitch in the remaining stitches.Slip stitch to end the round.

Last Round:-

Chain 1(Not Counted as a stitch).

1 Single Crochet Cross stitch in the remaining stitches untill you reach the handle.

12 Single Crochets in the Handle Space.

Continue with 1 single crochet cross stitches in the remaining stitches.

Slip stitch to end the round and weave off.
