How to find "contact paper"?
The pictures you describe as using "contact paper" look as if the projects were done with peel-and-stick vinyl. I can't find any product called "contact paper" in local stores, only the vinyl product. Where can you shop for contact paper?
I think it’s the same thing!
Hi Lynda, depending on what country you live in, it is called different things. In Canada we call peel and stick rolls of paper contact paper. I am not sure of the specific post you saw it on but the writer may have been Canadian. Contact paper here is usually a thin roll of sticky backed vinyl paper. Hope this helps :)
Check in your local dollar store. they carry it.
Con-Tact paper is one brand of self-adhesive vinyl paper with a peel off backing.
Where I grew up we knew it as MacTac.
This is a particular brand name but tends to be used for all self adhesive papers, similar to all facial tissue being referred to as kleenex.
Contact Paper is a brand name of peel and stick vinyl. People call any peel and stick vinyl "Contact Paper". Like a photo copy is "Xerox".
Home Depot, Lowes, Wal-Mart, Target, any hardware shore or home improvement center, even in some craft stores, and of course, on line and Amazon. I go to a hardware store that still sells by the yard.
Hardware stores sell contact paper - I found a descent supply in the shelving isle at Home Depot. There are so many great kids of vinyl in the craft stores that can be used in the same way, but the contact paper will be much cheaper.
Contact paper is the name brand for vinyl shelf liner. Depending on your project you could also use removable wallpaper.
Home Depot, Walmart etc carry contact paper that is the name brand of it -https://www.amazon.com/Tact-Brand-Covering-Self-Adhesive-Semi-Transparent/dp/B00R8AWBJI

Most home stores carry a selection of contact paper.
Con-Tact is one brand name of self-adhesive paper that has a peel off backing. Contact is not a brand name; it is a general term for this type of paper.
I buy mine online at Amazon. It's very difficult to find a great variety in stores anymore. Just pay attention to the reviews, because not all sticky paper is made the same. Contact brand is very thick, some of the others are thin and tear easily.
Are you referring to this type of paper? https://amzn.to/2Sf6P29
Thanks for all your answers, everyone. I was aware of all the places to get peel-and-stick vinyl, I just thought that being "vinyl" it could not be "paper"!
BTW, my chest freezer with the stains and rust spots on the lid now has a faux granite top!
