A comforter is the thick cozy blanket. if you have a duvet over it, then you can take the duvet off and clean that much more easily rather than the entire comforter. A duvet cover is kind of like a pillow case for the comforter.

Thank you very much for your excellent help. It made my ideas more enriched. Is it wise to use a duvet without a comforter? Or what if I only use a comforter or a duvet. Will it make any difference in cozy feelings? Really sorry for taking your time again.

A duvet is like a slip cover for the comforter. Just like a pillow case covers a pillow and you can take it off easier then washing an entire pillow.

With a duvet, you can take the cover off for washing. Plus, duvets are often filled with goose feathers, which really are wonderful, especially if you live in a cooler climate.

  • The duvet is great if you love swapping out your decor often. You can change up the style and color of the bedding easily and inexpensively. Plus you don't have to store a lot of bedding, just duvets which are like thin sheets.

I always buy my disabled clients and myself duvet covers for their comforters and down, cause it keeps it clean and you only have to wash the duvet cover instead of the whole comforter. I've purchased some pretty pricey ones at Goodwill new, where some of the home stores donate last seasons duvet. The price difference is about $15 compared to $250 to $300 which I have paid in the past.

This is important if you are in bed alot, or have pets who get on the bed, and if you suffer allergies from dust mites. In Europe they put them on all their bedding, when I was in Russia they even stuff them with blankets.

To have either a duvet/duvet cover or a comforter/bedspread on your bed is really a matter of personal preference.

Both duvets and comforters come in a full range of qualities, thicknesses and price points. It can not be said that one style is puffier or flatter, warmer or not as warm as the other, as it varies a great deal as to what quality you have purchased, and what the filling is inside.

Neither comforters or duvets are meant to be washed frequently. What is washed on regular basis is either the duvet cover, or the top sheet.

A duvet is an item that has a cover and can be changed easily. You can remove the cover and wash it or change for seasons. Compared to a comforter which is an item that is one piece. In my opinion, the downside of a duvet is shifting inside the cover because my family is a group of wigglers. Therefore, I decided to purchase a comforter for each of our beds. I wait until they are on sale and I never pay over $50 for an entire set. Most of mine have been ordered from Macy's online. Another option I use sometimes is a quilt in lieu of either. I have done that when I have a comforter in the laundry and sometimes leave it when the weather is appropriate for that level of warmth.

Hello, a duvet is a cover that is usually white and can be filled with down or synthetic fibers, you buy covers of different styles to protect it and make decor statements. A comforter is much the same but has a design on it, and is not filled with down, but synthetic fill only, you could put a duvet cover on a comforter to change the look as well
