DIY Tiered/Footed Tray

We are making a tiered tray out of things you have around your house.

Let's start with an 8x10 picture.

Any picture frame you like will do! You can leave the glass in as I did here.

You are going to need 4 feet for the bottom of the tray and something to separate the to tiers. I used wooden candle holders for the feet (painted white) and a wooden leg I had in my stash that I put between the two tiers.

1 wooden box. In its previous life, it was a napkin holder.

Gather your items.

Sand and clean them!

Take your picture and turn it around so you are looking at the back side.

Glue the wooden candle holders onto the back of the frame. I used Gorilla glue, clear, and a dab of hot glue.

Next, add your Gorilla glue or E6000 glue to your leg and center it in the middle of the 8x10 picture. I just centered it on the glass.

Let this dry before you continue.

Once the glue is dry, you can glue the box on top of the leg. Just add glue to the leg and center the box on top of the leg the best you can.

Once the leg is glued to the box and it is dry, you are ready to paint your tray. I painted my tray with Rust-oleum chalk paint in gray at first, then decided to paint it white. You can use any paint you want and it would work just fine. (I painted right on top of the glass with no issues).

Paint at least 2 coats of paint and if you use chalk paint you will need to sand in between. Let dry between each coat.

When the paint dried, I went back and distressed it. I like the look but if it is not your thing then don't do it. Make it your own!

Now the fun part, decorating the tray!

What is fun about this project is that I had everything to make it so the cost was 0 to make. Now go take a look around the house and see if you can put a tray together! They are so fun to make!! Don't forget to stop by my blog and read the full post in detail.

My mom STILL has the picture you used AND the matching picture hanging in her house! 😁. Now I have a way to upcycle them!

Why leave the glass in it? I’d be worried about it breaking.

I love this. I’ve wanted a tiered display or to also use for party food display (careful about finishing products and toxins of course) and never dreamed of using the box of old picture frames upstairs. Thank you for sharing!!!!

Think I would of replaced the picture glass with a thin piece of plywood so it wouldn't get broken. But very cute idea!
