DIY Witch Broom for Halloween

The Annual Witch Rides are just 22 days away. . .Time to dust off your broom, polish your shoes and buy a new hat! If you’re in need of a new broom for the Witching Hour, here’s one that’s easy to conjure!

To make this broom, I started with a downed tree limb, some craft paint and leftover Halloween craft supplies, so this project was super affordable!

I picked a crooked limb for my broom from a pile of downed limbs and branches in the yard and gave it a coat of black craft paint. A 2 oz. bottle of multi-surface acrylic craft paint is under $2 at Michaels or Hobby Lobby if you use their weekly coupon and you’ll only need 25 cents worth. :)

Tip: Thin your paint down with a little water to help the painting and coverage go more quickly. It will also dry to the touch in about 30 minutes.

After your limb is dry you can begin assembly. I gathered a partial roll of black mesh left over from  ‘Brella, the Floating Witch, and some back Halloween picks I had in my craft stash, along with a black cable tie.

I gathered the mesh around the limb and zipped it up with the cable tie. Make the base of your broom as long or as 'bunchy' -> technical term :) as you like.

I tucked the picks underneath the cable tie to hold them in place, and then cut off the excess length of the picks and the tie. Once my broom is complete I'm going to fly to the craft store and see if I can find a few more picks to add.

I tied a little more mesh to make a knot to conceal the cable tie.

Since every good witch loves holiday sparkle, I attached some orange and black Halloween tinsel garland leftover from my  Halloween Treat Cones.

A sparkly spider pick was added as the final touch, attached with a little hot glue under the knot. This DIY broom assembly took less than 30 minutes, making me happier than a witch in a broom factory!
