Hello. Just sounds like a fun project. Certainly there are conventional carpet covered constructed cat trees or natural ones. Here are some alternative looks
Start with a piece of tree branch (Preferably one with a branch or two to be able to hold either a flat table or would take something hanging from it. Next find heavy enough base to be able to screw the tree branch to. Fix in two/three places if possible from the bottom.
The branch does not have to be straight as long as it is balanced on the base and doesn't topple. Next screw down into the side branches a piece of timber suitable as a shelf. Do the same to other branches or fix hanging things for the cat to play with. Make sure the timber is smooth and free from splinters. Pain or Stain or leave Natural. You could also wind string around the trunk if you think the cat would use it as a scratching post too.
Here are some fun ideas:
Hi Rambo: Oh, so easy! I've made several. What I use for the tunnels and curves are those cement forms you can get at the home improvement stores or, the studier ones at a concrete business. Some sell them by the foot. When I was looking for some, I called a concrete business and the guy who answered the phone asked me what the noise was on my phone. I said it was a mixer and that I was making brownies. He said to bring him some:) I did, for the entire office, and they were very happy :) For the curves, I use 1 tube cut in half and glued together. Instead of staples or nails, I use contact glue to keep the carpeting on and clamped them together overnight. And, I have even gone to where there are houses being built, asked the carpenters if I could have some of the left over pieces of plywood and carpeting, and even gotten some of the logs from trees that they've taken down. Cost to me? Very minimal :) Here are some sites that have designs and/or directions:
Once you read the directions, you can make your own design. I've even gone behind carpet stores and pulled carpeting out of their dumpsters :) They don't seem to mind at all, and some of it is really nice and big. Good luck
Hello Rambo Rambo, hope this video helps you out, it looks really nice too!
