Today we have another 10 minute DIY on the blog. We’ll show you how to build a beautiful hanging shelf out of two belts and a board.

DIY Wall Shelf

Is it the same for you that somehow you never have enough storage space? Especially small things accumulate with me every second. And when everything is finally sorted into neat boxes, I don’t have any space left over to just put something decorative on the table. This small hanging shelf is a super easy solution for this. You can also hang it very flexibly wherever you need some storage space.

Things you need

  • 2 belts (min 80 cm long)
  • Board (15 x 40 cm, can be longer)
  • Punch pliers
  • Thick wall nails / possibly screws / dowels
  • Scissors
  • Spirit level
  • Pencil
  • Foldback clips

How to do it

First of all, you need two identical belts. Then you just have a board cut to size at the hardware store. If you want, you can of course also stain or paint it.

Then cut the buckles off the belts and shorten them to the same length. Put two loops with the belts and fix them with clips.

Now determine the location for the suspension holes on both ends of the belts. Lay the ends of the belts on top of each other and pinch the holes in them with the punch.

Now you hang the belt loops on the wall. Depending on the wall, the weight of the shelf and the function of your shelf, you should consider whether a nail is sufficient or you should better fix the shelf with a dowel and screws.

Then put the board straight into the loops and you’re done.

And what do you urgently need a shelf for? For decoration, your nail polish collection, herbs in the kitchen, next to the bed or for detergent over the washing machine? I think I’ll soon build a second shelf that can also carry a few pounds more.
