You should be able to use acrylic paint and then seal it with a clear spray sealer.

Hi! My granddaughter and I love to paint rocks together! I use whatever water based paint I have on hand (usually acrylic) for easy cleanup. She's a much neater painter than I am, but water based is easier to cleanup! If it's going in one of our outside fairy villages, I seal it with a spray sealer! Good luck and try some different paint types to see what you like working with. Paint pens are fun to use, too!
Hi Molly, hope this helps you paint your limestone. What kind of paint do you use on limestone?
specialist masonry paint
Paint the treated limestone surface with specialist masonry paint, using either a regular paintbrush for flat surfaces or a medium-nap paint roller for textured and rough surfaces. You will usually need to apply more than one coat of masonry paint. Wait for the first coat to dry before applying the final coat.

Masonry paint would worked the best. I have painted some with acrylic but only for flower beds under my pergola.
Hi Molly. Before you begin, you should wash the surface with a trisodium (TSP) phosphate cleanser. Wear gloves when working with TSP, as it can irritate the skin. Apply masonry sealer with a medium-nap paint roller. Wait for the sealer to dry and apply a second coat if you notice any bare patches. And make sure you use an elastomeric latex paint. It works best on treated limestone. And then coat the limestone with a satin latex paint. Apply the paint just as you did the primer. Wait at least 2 hours for it to dry. Add another coat if the primer shows through. Then use a spray sealer to protect your work. Good luck Molly. I hope you are well.
Hello after cleaning-I use a good bonding primer. Acrylic decorative paint then a few coats of poly acrylic- indoor or exterior depending on final location placement.
They have great waterproof spray sealers also that you can use to seal the paint.
Use acrylic paint pens and then you can spray them with a clear sealer.
Hi Molly, I think this may help you out!
