If you haven’t noticed, fluted details are all the rave these days. In fact, this wouldn’t be my first time making a fluted piece – have you seen my latest DIY coffee table? I actually planned out this project long before the coffee table, but had to wait 3 weeks for the half-round moulding to be delivered. And naturally, it took double that for me to write this blog post… Read on to see how I flipped an ugly Facebook Marketplace find into a gorgeous postmodern marble table.

This is what I started with. We drove 50 minutes one way to pick up this two-piece side table. It is a marble top placed on an old wood base.

Cut the MDF boards

Measure out the dimensions you need and cut the boards to size. This will become the façade that surrounds the existing table base.

Make a box

Attach the boards using corner braces as shown below.

Cut the half-rounds

We actually ran out of moulding, but it was easy enough to glue scrap pieces together to make more.

Apply the half-rounds to the box

Do this to all four sides using an adhesive. After it’s finished, slide the box over the table base and place the marble slab on top.

The Final Reveal

Here's a sneak peek of the side table! Head over to my blog post for the full reveal and links to sources. As always, find me on Instagram  @homebyheena for daily inspo!
