I would only use something temporary like a cookie sheet. I'd say use a wood cutting board, but I'd be afraid someone would accidentally turn on a burner.
Hi Marie, here is one someone made that looks like it is covering a gas stove. Hope it helps :) https://www.hometalk.com/6734958/diy-stove-top-cover

Go to 731 woodworks on You Tube. He has some ideas.
Yes you can use a cutting board or you can get gas burner covers at Walmart.
See Etsy and Pinterest. They have gorgeous custom coverings for gas or electric. Made of wood, with handles to pick up and use to serve. Called Noodle Boards. I’m getting one!
i am checking this out! Thank you
Take a look here for some inspiration:
Yep. Shows noodle boards and you can customize
Etsy has some really pretty choices...https://www.etsy.com/market/gas_stove_cover
Thank you, Betsy! I never knew what they were called. Pretty for sure...
I have used the to that came with my Washing Machine. It had to be removed when I wanted it to be fixed under my worktop. You could use a Enamel Sheet or If there is NO chance the gas will be lit whilst it is in place a piece of worktop or thick timber . Best wishes.
If you have a pilot light, it is best not to cover your gas stove top -
You can build a cover with wood!
Marie if u go with noodle board be sure u don’t get flat one. Look for raised one that is boxed around the edges. It gives height for gas ranges that have grilles on top of the burners. Most makers can customize to any size and height
