Faux French Mirror

While I love truly vintage pieces and anything in a french style, sometimes I can't find what I'm looking for or afford what I find. That's when I get creative and make something for a fraction of the cost!

That's pretty much with happened with this mirror which was purchased at a thrift store for $7 and then transformed using supplies I already had on hand, except for the stencil.

Let me show you how...

This is what the mirror looked like when I bought it. Plain but pretty details. I cleaned it well so the paint would stick and got to work.

I painted the mirror frame using Waverly chalk paint in Plaster which I already had on hand from other projects. I allowed bits of the original color to show through.

This is how it looked when I was finished painting the base color. You can still see little bits of the dark original finish in the grooves and crevices.

Next I grabbed my Rub 'n' Buff in Gold Leaf and used a small artists brush to lightly apply some here and there to the raised details along the outer edge of the frame. Again I did it lighter in some areas and heavier in others so it would look old.

I positioned my Show-Offs Silkscreen stencil in the center of my mirror. (Make sure your glass has been cleaned well and allowed to full dry before applying the stencil)

I applied my paint to the stencil using a small stencil brush.

Here is the finished mirror. It is the perfect addition to my main floor powder room which is finished in the palest of pink, white and gold.

The only things I purchased for this project was the mirror itself and the silkscreen stencil, but I will add the sources and costs for all the materials I used in case you don't have any of them on hand. Keep in mind all the materials will last for many projects!
