All color flaked off front door mat how to repaint?
I still want to use this as a door mat. I have brushed all the remaining paint/color of with a wire brush. Surprisingly it only took about 5 minutes. The color is gone the cut in design remains.
Paint gone ready for what to do next.

Hello. I cannot clearly see the degree of paint loss but I know when I’ve had paint loss on fabric items or garden flags I’ve used acrylic craft paints with fabric medium to make them waterproof and flexible. ThIs might be something you may wish to consider.
You could paint it with spray paint!
Because its outside I think I would recommend an oil based paint like rustoleum. I think that would probably last the longest.
I would spray paint it an accent color using a spray paint specifically made for plastic/polypropylene/polyester. Rust-Oleum and Krylon both make paint for plastic that would probably work.
You can repaint it, but they all fade with use.
Hi J Brown, I agree with spraying it with Rustoleum or Krylon paint. They have so many different colors that you are sure to find one that suits your needs. I use spray paint on many of my projects and have never been disappointed. Good luck!
Hello there,
Leave as is or re-paint or maybe Stain using Wood Stains a design to your liking.
You can paint it again with exterior grade paint. But expect to do it again and again - water and foot traffic will wear it down.

Would it help to spray a sealer over top of your new paint job? Your mat looked really pretty when it was new, hopefully it will look as good as new again when you are done.
Thanks everyone who has offered ideas.
I am concerned using spray paint I will loose the dimensional effect, there are way too many to mask off.
Thinking the brushed on acrylic paint might be the better decision for better control and using the spray sealer when done.
Lastly do yo think if I decide to buy a NEW one using the spray sealer would make it last longer?
Any color suggestions????
You could repaint and then seal with a spray sealant
Pretty mat. If the stoop is not used much as you said, it's the elements that are degrading the paint. A sealer could help, whether you paint it or buy new. However, either way, I would suggest sealing the sides and the back, as well. Water can be working its way in from those areas and when your mat swells and contracts from the heat and cold, the paint will chip again and flake off. Good luck!
Sounds like you could just paint it again with a better sealer on top this time. It is a pretty mat - looks like a lot of detail to paint back on but it would be beautiful to restore it!
Hello, you can repaint in same or different colors, and seal it so it doesn't peel so bad, you want t use the correct paint for rubber as well,

Use latex paint but seal it after
Using acrylic paints had been mentioned by several of you which I don't have. One of our thrift store has lots of craft paints so I went for supplies, got 8 colors for $2.
It was my Sunday afternoon activity while husband watched football and golf.

Make sure to use an exterior sealer after you have touched up all the paint.
You can easily paint the door mat to make it stand out again.

it this made out of fabric, stone or what? you could use the spray-on Scotsguard to see if that would help and just reapply as needed
acrylic paint with do it
What is the mat’s material? I imagine between that, if it’s something like rubber, and the constant exposure to weather will make it tough to get paint to stick to it for the long haul. Repaint it and keep it out of the weather to make it last longer. Paint is not a permanent solution to much.
I love oil based paint pens. I repainted an outdoor rug and some stepping stones and the oil based pens have lasted 2 years so far. Plus they are reusable so they're easy to keep in case further chipping.
you can use some acrylic or oil paint to repaint it!
