Old Drawer Turned Into a Planter
Here's how I turned an old tatty drawer that had seen better days into a function and modern plant stand with shelf for free, using some spare pallet wood.
OK. So here's a single drawer that had a terrible paint job. And a heads up - all DIY project videos show a larger drawer, which I featured on an ITV TV show recently.
But, the idea is exactly the same.
Above, I'd cut two side panels to match. This is just one of them.
And the width of it works out at EXACTLY the same width (front to back) as the drawer.
I also drilled pocket holes and glued and screwed all the side frames together.
Now, I'm laying the side of the drawer on top of one of the pallet wood side frames I made.
I screwed from inside with 4 screws.
I also cut three slats, pocket holed and propped it up with clamped offcuts so I could screw it to either side of the frame.
This added more strength AND it became a useful shelf.
And finally, for my plants, I drilled 6mm holes in the drawer base for drainage holes before lining with a hessian sack and that was it!
I just love how this simple piece turned out.
