Who said lanterns were just for candles? This Winter Wonderland Lantern is a great way to contain the Christmas decor sprawl and works well for apartment dwellers short on space to decorate for the holiday and winter seasons.

Step 1. It's all about the lantern or glass jar

I went with a lantern because it contains the scene and it's large enough to add some fun winter details to the space.

WINTER WONDERLAND LANTERN INSPIRATION

  • glass jar or accessory
  • artificial snow
  • mini bottle brushes
  • fairy lights
  • town figurine or decor
  • Christmas trees
Step 2. Snow

I went the bohemian route with my lantern this year. Instead of the flakey white stuff I used leftover faux fur scraps from another project on Hometalk (reupholstered a side table).

Honestly, I think the faux fur snow makes this scene so cozy!

Step

I snagged the little ceramic house in the dollar section at Target last year. I added a battery operated tea light and loved the glow.

3. Greenery

I opted for fresh greenery and added a few sprigs of pine from the yard. The bright green and fresh scent just added to this winter wonderland.

For the town scenery I printed a free printable of a row of lamp posts. I loved this scene and it just added to the mood of a winter evening.

The winter wonderland came together.

The addition of the tea light cast a warm glow inside the window panes of the lantern.

Thank you for taking the time to check out this fun twist on a lantern.

Love this, thank you !! I have a large white wood lantern that I believe a snow scene with my white ceramic church would look amazing...no more boring candles inside ! This site and the people who contribute such as yourself, help people like me to rethink items we already have in our homes. I need help to think outside the box or in this case the lantern !! Thanks again and stay safe 😷 !
