When to lay flooring in kitchen?
We are redoing our kitchen, and will be putting down new flooring. Do you put in the cabinets first, then lay laminate plank flooring up to the cabinets?
Or would you install the flooring first, then put the cabinets in place?

Cabinets and then flooring.

We’ve always done cabinets then flooring. That way if you want to change in the future you fine have to worry with the flooring being under cabinets. After cabinets, put a trim down to hide any gaps.
I agree. Go with the cabinets first, then add the flooring. We redid our kitchen here if you want to see some tips. https://www.pmqfortwo.com/kitchen-update-one-year-later/
always first floor then cabinets
Lay flooring first, then install cabinets and appliances. Only time I install flooring last is when doing a refresh or mini makeover where cabinets will not be removed. Choose your toe kick moulding carefully.
Floor first
Hi! You use a lot of square footage of flooring, covering it with cabinets. If you want to have some for repairs, store some of the flooring. So, I put cabinets first. Good luck!
Former homebuilder. Cabinets always first. Why spend extra money for something that's going to be covered. Also flooring can be OOPS installing cabinets after flooring.
Hi Annie,
It depends on your circumstances! If you have lots of flooring. lay the floor first and then protect it whilst installing cabinets. If the flooring is expensive then lay it after cabinets are installed, but make sure you don't have a gap between the flooring and the cabinets where rubbish ,water could leach under or in between.
Cabinets before the floors -then cover your new floors before painting, etc to protect them
It is easier to lay flooring first and then put cabinets on top, but this is the more costly way - as far as materials.
Floor first then cabinets.
Cabinets first, then floors. You use less flooring product that way.
Hi Annie, since you are doing the cabinets, I would do them first then lay the flooring afterwards, that way it won' t get damaged when the cabinets are installed.
If you are doing a floating floor, then definitely do cabinets first. I have done tile floors and put the floor down first. Mark floor where the cabinets will go, install tiles so they partially fit under the cabinets (less cutting), and use a filler at back edge of cabinets so they sit level. Scraps of tiles or wood can be used.
