Reupholstering inside a steamer trunk

Yes it definitely looks like its in good enough shape to go right over of it. I would make sure and check it over thoroughly and make sure its all glued down and secure though before going over it.

Stripping out the paper will help with the musty smell - from your other question above. :) That being said, if the paper is really well adhered you shouldn’t have a problem with glueing fabric over it.

As long as there is no loose paper that should work just fine. If there are loose sections, glue them and let them dry before adding anything new over it.

Try prepasted wall paper. A lot of thrift stores have partial rolls for really cheap. So easy to do. Cut soak according to instructions on the roll and stick. Easy and strong.

If you clean it well, you should be able to go directly on top of the existing paper. However, if you change your mind the underlying paper will be ruined. You might want to consider using removable wallpaper.

Check the quality of the paper that is pasted to the trunk, if it looks like it can withstand a layer over it then go for it. Actually it would look really good with crushed velvet glued to it, for a richer feel.

Yes you can. Looks like the paper is in good condition. Use a spray adhesive like 3M Super 77 Spray Adhesive.

Hello. If it’s in good condition and well sealed without bubbles rips or tears it would be best to leave it in to maintain the trunk integrity.

With a spray glue, you’ll have very little re-positioning time.

With many papers, if they get saturated they will telescope the brown from the aged existing paper.

I would “upholster” large sheets of card stock to fit exactly in place, as “panels” and then glue the “panels”in, one side at a time and put heavy weights (bricks) on them to keep the panels flat while drying.
