This should go pretty well in any fireplace, it should work well in blocking drafts & cold air.

I put several white birch logs in mine. I saved them from when the birch tree in my yard was cut down but you can buy them at home decorating stores. White-barked tree logs are so much prettier than firewood.

I once added a silver tray to the grate and filled it with white candles of different sizes and heights.

Are you talking about in front of your fireplace

If you no longer use it, you could use mirror tiles on all inner areas. Then add a tray of different height pillar candles or the faux ones. When lit it will produce a nice glow in the room. Plus no real worries if you forget to snuff out the real candles. Even a display of clear vases with colored water inside or even various sizes of decanters in the fireplace could create a focal point and be unique.

Hello. Decorative logs bundled can be a very charming enhancement. I’ve also seen crafters take a large board that will fill the cavity and glue with slices to it and then inert this decorative panel into the fire box.

We never used our wood-burning fireplace in 20 years at our last house. We did have a free standing glass screen and put decorative birch logs on the grate. Votive candles (in glass cups) were lit at times we wanted the look of the fire. The flue had been closed and insulated by previous owners.

At this time of year you can put candles in the fireplace, get the battery operated kind. I put a huge basket of pine cones from my pine trees that keep me stocked. You can put fake logs, etc. Actually you can decorate for any of the holidays, or even the seasons.

I've seen folks paint the inside of the opening black, and put a tiered candle holder inside with white candles..... very nice.

Candles are a definite ingredient in my plans. I just have to refine all the suggestions. Thank you, ladies!
