Kitchen Bay window
Need to find someway to treat this large bay window in kitchen. I love the complete open look in the day but need to be able to close at night don’t know if any type of curtain would look right in kitchen and if I add blinds I would have to add a topper which I’m not a fan of to hide head rails. It needs softened up but I’m really struggling with it! Help!!!

Hello. I always feel like window treatments can be a personal choice that needs to suit your own aesthetic. Sometimes a visual search can lead to determining your selection . Here’s a link that might get you started Pinterest and Houzz sites might be other options to look over.
If it were my window I would probably get pleated shades or roller blinds. We have even had the motorized ones that look like thin fabric. It can be an expensive purchase so looking over visual options might help lead into your final purchase.

For $7 at a home improvements store, you can get pleated shades that peel and stick right up to install. There is enough in the box to do the entire bay window. You can put them up in the day and down at night. They are very thin won’t take up hardly any space at the top of the window when you have them up. If you decide you don’t like the look, you haven’t invested much. If you like the look, you can buy something similar but more expensive, different color etc. I have windows in my bedroom closet room and have used the same set of these for about 4 years now. They cut and go up in about 5 minutes and no tools needed. You can’t do wrong by trying these!!!
A quick and simple fix would be to put up a tension rod, add curtains of your liking, tie them back during the day with say a tiny loop in the side of the frame ( I hate putting holes in wood). Close them at night.
I can understand that you'd like to keep that view- pretty. Have you thought about folding shutters for the lower half? It looks like you have enough wall space on either side of the window to fold them open during the day and then shut them at night for privacy. I would also consider, but not needed, a short length valance at the top and possibly swag style side panels to complete the frame. Nice window to work with.
I would dress it with a rod and floor to ceiling drapes. Make it so that the drapes can be pulled next to the entire window in the day time. It will make the window seem wider too!
Hi Jane, I have seen some beautiful blinds (not mini blinds but rolled ones) that actually attach to the bottom of your window. They roll upwards instead of down so that you can roll them up to whatever height you feel comfortable at and then the top of the window stays clear. This might be a great idea because you could put on or all up or down and still have part of your window open while part of it is blocked for privacy.
Hi Jane, here are a few gorgeous ideas that may inspire you https://www.bhg.com/decorating/window-treatments/basics/bay-and-bow-window-treatment-ideas/
Hello Jane,
You could also use Shutters.
You can have custom shutters made that will work inside the window. I have a friend who used to work at a shutter and cabinet shop, he built these many times so it is definitely a do-able idea.
Roman shades would work well.
I have blinds that pull down at night and valances that hide them. They go inside the window. We also added a cushion to the bay for extra seating. You can peek at it here: https://www.exquisitelyunremarkable.com/2016/06/get-look-cottage-style-family-room.html
There are also some really beautiful blinds out there that nearly disappear and the header just looks like a piece of moulding...
You can put 2 inch blinds in the window. You would need 3, one for the middle and 2 for the sides. Or you could put shutters in the window which is a very pretty look.
I watch Guy's Grocery Games too. He is so fun.
