PAINT:

Using slow, back-and-forth motions, spray paint each item with several light coats of spray paint, making sure to overlap each stroke slightly. Apply 2-3 coats of spray paint, waiting a few minutes in between each coat.

Hi! I try not to ever use spray paint indoors because of the fumes. After a good cleaning, you can prime and paint using any good quality paint. They also make paint and paint kits for cabinets that hold up well. Both Giani and Rustoleum make excellent kits. Good luck!

When you filled the strip lines, did you use a paintable caulk? That would be my guess.

As far as covering the mistake, i agree with other commenters - beadboard! Its trendy, its smooth and easy to paint, and its one of those timeless looks that will last a long time and not just fall out of style in a season or 2.
