Upcycled Basket For Christmas

Last Christmas eve at 10 pm we got a surprise visit. Unfortunately, it wasn't Santa but they were still bearing gifts. We were given a wicker hamper basket full of Christmas goodies. The food was all eaten and drunk and I decided to upcycle the basket, just like I upcycle my Christmas wine crates (see here).

The hamper has proven to be really handy for extra storage in my craft room. However, I wanted to give it a more festive look so that it could become part of my Christmas decorations.

First, I sprayed the basket white all over and then masked off all but the edges with newspaper and painters tape.

Then sprayed the basket again this time in red.

Next, I made my own stencil for the number 25.

This was then stenciled on to the top of the basket.

I didn't stop with just painting the basket, I also decided to line it with painted drop cloth.

I covered a handmade cardboard base for the basket with drop cloth. I then made stripes with painter tape in different widths.

I then painted the strips red. This was to give the lining an antique French linen look.

The sides of the basket were also lined in painted drop cloth.

I'm really happy with my new festive hamper and use it in my Christmas displays and then use it to store my Christmas ornaments after the festive season. For more details and photos visit the blog.

I'm always upcycling old baskets, boxes and suitcases to make attractive storage one of my most popular upcycles is my vintage map suitcase (see it here).
