You could fix a table tennis ball on top of a Cone of Card or Dry foam, and then dress that up to suit, or stick a ball on top of an upturned bucket or bin. Hope that is of some help to you.

I made a bunch of sock gnomes last year. It was quite easy and fun! I stuffed a sock with some rice - just be sure to freeze it first.I secured the top of the sock with some hot glue and elastic.
