I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on the trees for the sides of our garage. I found some inexpensive ones but quickly realized how cheap they really looked- you get what you pay for, right?. I was looking for a clever, cheap update and found I could improve them with a $3 garland!!

I got mine from Walmart (it was only $3 for 9 feet!), but you can get it from anywhere. Just make sure that it is a wired garland so you have some play with the branches.

What you’ll need:

Cheap Christmas tree(s)

Cheap wired garland

Good scissors or wire cutters

Step 1: Fluff tree

Fluff your cheap tree as much as you can. There will be gaps, but that’s okay! These are the spaces we’re going to fill in with the garland.

Step 2: Cut garland

Cut your garland into smaller strips. I cut a few strips of varying lengths - about 12in, 8in, and 6in. The lengths you cut will depend on how big your tree is. You can play around with some sizes until you find what works.

Step 3: Connect

Intertwine your strips of wired garland into your tree. Keep adding strips in all the gaps until you’re happy with the fullness!

Such a huge improvement for only $3?! I almost couldn’t believe it. Definitely a good hack to have in your back pocket.
