You could use ever decreasing circles (bit like Hula Hoops) strung together and wrapped with tinsel or Greenery . It will collapse for storage and is easy to fix up. ( Add a topper to the tree and fix an eye to the top to hook onto screw in the ceiling) or Make a tripod or stand to keep it upright. Have fun!
do you have scraps of Christmasy material? starch them after cutting them into steps, get a wooden pole and wrap lights on first, then tie on the material scraps starting short at the top and getting longer and longer - you may even have to use wires to get them to "stick out" just an idea - push it all down to store and then next year, spray it with sparkle paint for new life!!
